Guinness World Record experts are set to travel to a remote part of Nepal to meet a 72-year-old claiming to be the world's shortest man.

Chandra Bahadur Dangi stands at just one foot, 10 inches tall, and weighs a little under two stone at 26lbs.
Up until now, Junrey Balawing from the Philippines has held the title of the world's smallest man with a height of one foot, 11.6 inches tall.

He took the title just last year from another Nepali, Khagendra Thapa Magar, who was measured in 2010 at one foot, 11,7 inches tall.

But if Mr Dangi's measurements prove correct, he would scoop the accolade by a mere inch and a half, and be the shortest human adult ever documented.


The shortest adult human ever, according to Guinness, was Gul Mohammed, who was 1 foot, 10.4 inches tall. He died in 1997 at the age of 40.

Guinness World Records editor-in-chief Craig Glenday said: 'We cannot confirm Mr Dangi's height until formal measurements have been taken and verified by Guinness
World Records officials but we hope to undertake the verification in the next few weeks. 'We intend to travel to Mr Dangi's village to officially measure him and are currently making provisions for medical professionals to assist us in the verification.'

Mr Dangi, from the impoverished Dang district on the Nepal-Indian border, first made the claim on state-run Nepal Television and has never been measured by Guinness World Records before.

He was filmed having to jump off a park bench because of his height and taking a short walk in front of journalists.

Members of his family said that, despite his age, Mr Dangi is in excellent health and has never been to hospital or even taken medicine.

Mr Dangi has already become a local celebrity in southern Nepal - appearing at community events and opening religious festivals.
The news comes just days after the world's smallest woman Jyoti Amge revealed her very big ambitions - turning her hand to politics to become the world's smallest election campaigner for the Maharashtra Navnirman Sena party, ahead of the forthcoming civic election in Mumbai, India.

But 18-year-old Jyoti, at two foot six inches tall, is still a whole foot taller than Mr Dangi.
And at the other end of the scale, stands the world's tallest man Sultan Kösen, 29, from Mardin, Turkey, at eight foot and three inches.

Despite the financial crisis, it seems the country still has some money left in the Bank of England's vault beneath London.
In fact, there are stacks of gold bars worth a whopping £156billion stored in an old canteen deep below the streets of the capital.

It seems Gordon Brown did not manage to completely strip the country of its assets when he sold off 400 tons of gold at rock-bottom price during his time as Chancellor.

The gold he got rid of when prices were at a 20-year low cost the country up to £11bn, it was estimated last April.

 

He made just £2.3billion on the precious metal he sold between 1999 and 2002.
So the 4,600 tons of the precious metal still stored in these concrete-lined vaults in the heart of London will be a welcome sight for those worried we have little left to fall back on.
The piles of 28lb 24-carat gold bars are stacked on simple blue shelves beneath strip lighting. One image alone shows around 15,000 bars or 210 tonnes of pure gold, with a value of approximately £3billion.

On the walls of one of the vaults, posters from the 1940s are still visible, from when the vast room was used as a canteen.
The walls must be literally bombproof as they were used by bank staff as air raid shelters during World War II.
The old-fashioned posters that hang around the room depict sunny climes, luxury cruises and happier times - which may be as welcome a sight as the valuables for many.
Three-foot long keys are needed to unlock to the doors that guard the rooms holding the gold - but sadly not all of it belongs to us.
Some is deposited by foreign governments as well as our own. Different shapes and marks distinguish the varying sources of the wealth.
