An honest taxi driver in Dubai who returned Dh36,000 (£6,050, $9,800) to a passenger left behind in his cab received a reward of Dh10 (£1.68, $2.72) in return. But the small reward doesn’t bother him, says Shaaban Ali, the Pakistani cab driver, employed with Arabia Taxi.
The incident happened a few days ago. Ali’s cab was hailed by the passenger, a Saudi Arabian national, to go from Al Ghusais to Gold souq. After leaving him at the destination, Ali took another passenger. Along the way, he noticed the bag, close to the door. 
“I have to admit I felt a little bad because I spent a lot of time trying to track the passenger down and even spent more than an hour waiting at our office for him to come and collect the money. But I would have returned the money with or without the reward, so it doesn’t matter.”
After doing a few rounds of the area searching for the passenger without luck, Ali took the bag to his office. “The bag contained Dh36,000, the man’s passport and some other documents.” After he was informed, the passenger came to the office an hour later and collected his belongings. “He told me thank you and handed me Dh10,” said Ali, with a smile. to look up in Wikipedia

A housemaid in Dubai has been accused of urinating in the tea kettle of her sponsor’s family and endangering their lives. She believed that her urine would enchant them to treat her better. Prosecutors charged the 26-year-old Indonesian housemaid, D.R., of intentionally endangering the life of her Emirati sponsor and his family by urinating in the tea kettle and serving them the tea. Records said the defendant urinated in the teakettle and served the tea to the family seven times in the month of April.



When the defendant appeared before the Dubai Misdemeanour Court on Tuesday, she failed to admit or deny her accusation due to the absence of a translator. When asked by the judge on what language she spoke, D.R. stood in courtroom nine and confidently said: “I speak Arabic.” The judge adjourned the case until an Indonesian translator is made available on July 8. On being questioned by prosecutors, D.R. confessed that she had urinated in her sponsor’s tea kettle to enchant them so that they would treat her better.

“Yes, I peed in the tea that I served them nearly seven times last April. My sponsor’s wife was constantly complaining .. .once I met my countrywoman and asked her for advice to make my sponsor and his family treat me better and love me more. She advised me to pee in the bathtub of my sponsor’s washroom and urinate in the tea before serving it to them. I did so nearly seven times until I got exposed. When the wife confronted me, I told her what I did. I used to urinate in a cup inside my washroom and then would go and pour some of the urine in her bathroom,” the housemaid said. D.R. alleged that she used to put around a teaspoon of her urine in the tea kettle before serving the tea.

She claimed that her sponsor, his wife and her brother drank the tea. Meanwhile, the Emirati sponsor testified that he reported D.R. to the police after he discovered four pools of urine in the washroom over different occasions. “Every time I asked her about the pool of urine, she denied any responsibility. However, on the day when I was taking her to the police in my car, she admitted that she had peed in the bathroom and tea kettle to enchant us and treat her better,” he claimed. The trial continues.

A Saudi restaurant has started charging diners if they order more than they can eat.
The move against leftovers by Marmar Restaurant in the city of Dammam in the Eastern Province is aimed at stopping food wastage and reduce extravagance by rationalising orders, said Fahad Al Anezi, the restaurant owner.
"There are many clients who make large orders in order to impress the people around them and boost their social prestige," he said.
The fine is symbolic for diners whose eyes or egos are bigger than their stomachs and is decided according to the quantity of the leftovers. The unprecedented idea has been largesly endorsed by Saudis, Al Anezi said.

Patna: As protests over the sky-high cost of onion get louder across the country, a village in Bihar has no grouse from the government about its price hike.

The reason? Its inhabitants abhor onions and thus, this pungent vegetable is obviously neither allowed nor used in their kitchens.
Onion is currently being sold at Rs40-50 (Dh3.24-Dh4) per kilogramme in the Indian markets despite many measures initiated by the government to check the price rise.
Reports state that the residents of Bhimsen village — tucked away in the Amarpur block of eastern Bihar's Banka district — have not tasted onion for the past 200 years, fearing its use may bring sudden disasters and rob them off their peace.
Local villagers assert that an incurable disease spread like an epidemic when Bhimsen village — which has a population of some 500 — came into existence some 200 years back and their ancestors believed these all happened due to the curse of the deities.
"It was then decided by our ancestors that henceforth nobody in the village will use onion in anyway.
"Thus, the practice which began some 200 years ago still continues. The people do not use onion apprehending this may bring disasters in the family or the village," Umapati Singh, a local villager, said. The reason? A Dubai student who racked up traffic offence penalties of $97,000 (£61,888)
 Dhm ( 356 000 ) has been caught by police.
The man, who eluded officers for two years and continued to collect speeding tickets, also had his 4X4 vehicle seized.He was forced to pay fines of $69,754 immediately, and must find a further $27,247 to get his car back.


The man, who committed 400 separate offences, has also had his driver's licence revoked. Police in Dubai did not identify him, but it was reported he was a university student.
