A world famous Muslim cleric has been jailed by a Bristol court for exposing his genitals to a woman and a 12-year-old girl in a Bristol park.
25-year-old Libyan Abrahim Ghait was visiting Britain during the Muslim festival of Ramadan to preach at mosques in the Bristol area. Ghait is a world renowned imam who had memorised the entire Koran by the age of 17 and was able to recite long passages from the holy book from memory alone.
The cleric had been invited to Britain by the Bristol-based UK Arabic Society, but during his stay Ghait didn’t just recite his passages, he also exposed himself.
The imam pleaded guilty to two counts of exposing his reproductive organ at Castle Park in August. The court heard how on Friday 13th August a 28-year-old woman walking through the park on her own at around 19:45 spotted the young cleric loitering near a rubbish bin. When the woman got closer Ghait stepped out from behind the bin with his trousers pulled down and his penis in his hand despite children being nearby. He looked at the woman in the eye, looked down at his organ and then looked back up at her again.
The woman quickly walked away and called the police.
Three days later Ghait was in the same park when he exposed his genital gland to a 12-year-old girl, he told her it was called “Lexie”.
Ghait was later arrested and appeared before magistrates where he pleaded guilty to both charges, believing he would avoid a custodial sentence and be allowed to go home to Libya. The imam’s defence also told the court that their client was suffering from a horrendous case of piles and was awaiting urgent surgery on them back in Libya.
However Bristol magistrates were not swayed by the haemorrhoid story and gave the pervert a custodial sentence of six weeks and put him on the Sex Offender Register for seven years.
