In a move that appears to be an act of moral policing, authorities in a small Italian town have decided to fine women who wear miniskirts or show too much cleavage, a media report said here Friday.
The fair sex will face fines of up to 500 Euros (RM 2,174) under new rules to be introduced in an Italian town, the Daily Telegraph reported.
In a move sharply at odds with a country which produced the likes of Monica Bellucci and Sophia Loren, the town of Castellammare di Stabia, near Naples, intends to prohibit women from wearing provocative clothing.
The town's council also wants to ban men and women from wearing low-slung jeans as part of a list of 41 new rules that "every good citizen must respect", the report said.
Luigi Bobbio, the mayor, said it was all part of an effort to "restore urban decorum and improve coexistence" by targeting people who were "rowdy, unruly or simply badly behaved".

Playing football in parks and gardens and swearing in public will also be banned under new regulations which will be put forward for approval at a council meeting Monday.

If the new regulations are approved, offenders will face fines of between 25 Euros (RM108.70) and 500 Euros (2,714).
Italy has become entangled in a web of petty rules and regulations in the last two years after the government of Silvio Berlusconi gave councils extra powers to tailor laws to tackle crime and anti-social behaviour.

A 106-year-old woman in Britain is not only a virgin, she has never ever been kissed.
Isa Blyth, who turned 106 Saturday, puts her longevity to being a virgin, The Sun reported.
She is of the opinion that being single has made her stay strong.
"I'm not sure if anyone ever tried it on - but they never got anywhere! She says she never felt the need for romance and never had time for a man.
"She did like the odd sherry though," her niece Sheena Campbell was quoted as saying.
Blyth was born in 1904.
She used to attend flower club and church, sang in the choir, and played golf or gardening.
She always stayed in Edinburgh and worked for 35 years as a private secretary to a whisky producer. Sheena said: "She was wrapped up in her church and she loved her choir and flower club.
"And she had a high-powered job, which meant she was always busy.
"I think she was also a bit of a maiden lady as she was the first-born and acted as a head with her six brothers and sisters.
"She never had time to be sad. She's an amazing character. You wouldn't believe she was 106."

Four people were killed after a bloody altercation took place over a 1 yuan (45 sen) parking charge in China's Yangpu district.
Shanghai police have detained a suspect after four men were stabbed to death Wednesday night at a residential complex in Yangpu district, Shanghai Daily reported Friday.
The dead include the keeper of the complex's moped shed, Liu Haihao, and three men who fought with him.
They had an argument with Liu as they suspected that he was overcharging. Liu demanded 1 yuan for each moped while the others maintained that each moped should only be charged 0.5 yuan.
"'Help, help!' I just heard the screaming after 10 pm," a resident at the complex on Siping Road was quoted as saying.
Investigators were trying to figure out who stabbed whom in the dark.
When police arrived at the spot, three bodies were lying on the ground. Another man was seen with a knife sticking into his stomach and he died after being taken to Shanghai Hospital.
