Tiny pigs the size of tea cups are the latest pet craze sweeping across Britain.
The must-have micro pigs have become so popular they are almost impossible to get hold of in the UK and sell for up to £700 each.

The adorable animals, which grow to just 14in tall, are being snapped up by celebrities, including Harry Potter actor Rupert Grint, who plays Ron Weasley.
‘Demand for micro pigs is soaring and we are inundated with inquiries every day," says Jane Croft, 42, who has given up her job to breed them full time.
‘It's amazing how popular they have suddenly become and just how many people want pigs as pets.’
Micro pigs are much smaller than a standard farm pig and weigh 9oz, about the size of a tea cup when they are born.
At two years old they are fully grown and weigh in around 40-65lb and are around knee height at 12-16in tall.
They can live for up to 18 years, but make popular pets as they are low maintenance, quiet and surprisingly clean.

‘Micro pigs make fantastic pets as they are very low maintenance. You don't have to take them for walks and they have very few health issues,’ said Miss Croft.

‘They don't make much noise, they are easy to toilet train and once they have bonded with you they are very loving.
‘They are actually very clean and never mess in their bedding and are just so adorable.

‘They are also highly intelligent and are the fourth most intelligent species after man, monkey and dolphin.

‘They really are the perfect pets, I don't know why people haven't thought of them before.’

Micro pigs, which grow no bigger than a Labrador, are also good alternative pets for people with allergies.

‘Lots of people are allergic to cats and dogs but you can't get allergies from pigs as their skin is very similar to ours, and the have hair not fur,’ Miss Croft.

‘We've had many parents buy pigs for their children who suffer from fur allergies,’ Miss Croft set up her micro pig breeding business five months ago at Little Pig Farm in Christchurch, Cambs.

She currently has 50 micro pigs, have been working 14 hours a day, seven days a week to keep up with demand.

Her company website has been getting 4,000 hits a week and she gets at least 60 e-mails and 40 phone calls a day from people all over the world, including America, Russia, Spain and even Australia.

‘I have always adored pigs and I love the famous Winston Churchill quote about a pig being man's equal. I have been breeding pigs on and off as a hobby for 15 years,’ said Miss Croft.

'I saw some micro pigs on television and fell in love with them. They have become so popular as pets they were impossible to get hold of so I began breeding them myself.


‘I spent months researching and finding suitable pigs and now at last I am able to do my dream job full-time.’

The pigs are crosses of Miniature Pot Bellied pigs with Tamworths, Kune Kunes and Gloucester Old Spots to create their tiny, colourful Micro Pigs, which are sold for between £195 and £700.

They enjoy good food, lots of toys and even have Classic FM piped to their bedrooms.

The size of the piglets get smaller with every litter with Peanut the piglet believed to be one of the tiniest adult pigs in Europe.

The little pig, who weighed just under 2kg at twelve weeks old, now lives indoors with Miss Croft as a companion to her dog and sleeps on the sofa.

At 13 months she has almost stopped growing and is just 12 inches tall.

‘They really are fantastic fun, highly sociable and make amazing pets,’ said Miss Croft.

'They will sit on your lap while you watch TV so you can scratch their belly. They will even talk to you and have you giggling for hours.'

A black Tibetan mastiff has become the world's most expensive dog after a Chinese woman paid the equivalent of £352,000 for it.

The millionairess owner and her new dog flew into Xi'an, the capital of the Shaanxi province, where they were greeted by a fleet of 30 black limousines.

She revealed that her 'priceless pet' had been named 'Yangtze River Number Two' and added: 'Gold has a price, but this Tibetan mastiff doesn't.'

The millionaire, who only gave her surname as Wang, said she and a friend had spent a long time searching for an original Tibetan mastiff.

She and a friend had travelled to the Tibetan province of Qinghai with a bitch mastiff they already owned.

In the town of Yushu they spotted the new dog and decided on the spot to buy it, regardless of price.

The Tibetan mastiff is an ancient breed that originates with nomadic cultures of Central Asia and northern India.

As a flock guardian dog in Tibet, it renowned for being tenacious in its ability to confront predators the size of wolves and leopards.

Like all flock guardian breeds, they are intelligent and stubborn to a fault, so obedience training is recommended- although only mildly successful.

According to breed experts, Socialisation is also critical because of their reserved nature with strangers and guarding instincts.

Newspaper reports have suggested that a pair of these mastiffs have killed tigers while guarding sheep in the highlands of Nepal.


China's economy has developed at a fast pace, creating with it an increasing number of millionaires.

Research by the Hurun Report, a magazine that tracks China's wealthiest, revealed in April that 825,000 people had personal wealth of over 10 million yuan ($1.5 million), or 0.06 percent of the population.

The vast majority of these millionaires have said the global financial crisis has not had any impact on their lifestyle, the research said.

Earlier this year, a family in Florida paid £93,000 for a Labrador called Lancelot Encore. That price included the cost of cloning the original Lancelot.

But the Sultan of Brunei is said to have paid £15,000 to get a London barber to trim his hair in what is believed to be the most expensive haircut ever.
He hired a private suite on a Singapore Airlines flight to carry Ken Modestou, who runs a barber’s at the Dorchester hotel in Mayfair, the 7,000 miles to his home to attend to his hair.
The sultan is believed to have ordered the special cabin to ensure the barber was isolated from possible swine flu among other passengers.
The 63-year-old, who is one of the world's richest men with a £12billion fortune, also paid for Mr Modestou's accommodation for a few nights and gave him several thousand dollars in payment.
Back in London, the barber charges just £30 for a cut. Mr Modestou has been cutting the sultan's hair for 16 years, sometimes going every three or four weeks, the Sunday Times reported.
The extraordinary cost of one man's hair cut came as it emerged that one British hairdressers is charging just £2.50 for a gentleman's trim.
Bury Barbers in Greater Manchester also offer a wash, cut and style for a man for £2.95 and a ladies dry cuts for short hair at £3.95 for those with special fliers.
Customer are even offered free beers, wines, tea and coffee.
It launched the special deal after a new hairdresser,  The Barber's Shop, opened in the town last week with cut price offers of  £3 cuts for men and £4 trims for women.

So far, Tammy has taken Calvino for an MRI, ultrasounds, a CAT scan and to see several specialists. But as yet, none has been able to explain the medical mystery.


Ophthalmologist Dr Rex Hamilton said Calvino could be suffering from a rare condition known as haemolacria, which means 'bloody tears'.

'That is just a descriptive term of the manifestation of the bloody tears,' Hamilton told television show Good Morning America.

'It says nothing about what's causing that. It's a one-in-a-million kind of condition.'

There are few people who have made their mark on life quite like monk Hua Chi.
He has knelt to pray so many times that his footprints remain deeply, perfectly ingrained on his temple's wooden floor.
Hua, who is about 70,  has been performing a strict daily ritual at the site in the monastery town of Tongren, in Qinghai province, China, for nearly 20 years.

Every day before sunrise, he arrives at the temple steps, places his feet in his footprints and bends down to pray a few thousand times before walking around the temple.
The footprints are 1.2 inches deep where the balls of his feet have pressed into the wood.
But the years are beginning to make their own mark on his body.
'During the first years I would pray 2,000 to 3,000 times a day.
'But I have grown older, so in recent years I have only done around 1,000 each day,' he said, adding sheepishly that he could sometimes only manage around 500 in the cold of winter.
who is also a doctor of traditional medicine, hopes his dedication will take him closer to his goal - a smooth transition to the afterlife.


'I reconstructed this temple and have prayed and walked around the temple all these times so that after my death my spirit will not suffer,' he said.
Hua's devotion has not gone unnoticed by younger monks at the temple, which lies within the Rongwo Gonchen Gompa, Tongren's main Tibetan monastery.
The monastery, which dates from 1301, is home to hundreds of youngsters studying Buddhist scriptures.
Twenty-nine-year-old Genden Darji says he spent many days admiring Hua's efforts before finding the courage to step into his footprints.
As he carefully repeats Hua's movements, the young monk says he plans to carry on the ritual when the older monk stops.
'Every day I come here and every day I look at the piece of wood, and it has inspired me to continue to make the footprints myself,' he said.

It’s the one classroom where everyone’s paying attention at the back.

Being a few feet away from a poisonous snake has a wonderful way of concentrating the mind.

Six-year-old Rekha Bae – like all children in the 600-strong nomadic Vadi tribe in western India – will have first been introduced to cobras at the age of two.

All Vadi children complete a ten-year initiation ritual that culminates in the boys becoming fully-fledged performing snake charmers.
Divided between the sexes, the act of snake charming with traditional flute is the role of the men, while the Vadi women care for the snakes and handle them when their husbands or brothers are not around.

'The training begins at two, the children then are then taught the ancient ways of snake charming until they are ready to take up their roles in our community,' said chief snake charmer Babanath Mithunath Madari, 60.

'At twelve the children will know everything that they can know about snakes.

'They are then ready to continue the traditions of the Vadi tribe which can be stretched back over one thousands years to India's great Raja's (kings).'

The nomadic Vadi tribe, which lives in the south of the Indian state of Gujarat take great pride in their association with the areas deadly snakes.

Never staying in one place for more than six months, the Vadi have an almost mythical attachment to snakes and especially cobras.
'At night, as we sit around our huts in the open desert and explain to the pact that our descendants made with Naga, the snake god,' Madari said.
'We explain to the children how we only take a snake away from its natural habitat for a maximum of seven months.

'Any more is disrespectful to the snake and especially after the charmer and snake have worked together so closely and so intimately.

'Both are trusting their lives to the other one.'
The cobras are fed a herbal mixture which Madari says renders the snake's deadly poison useless.

'We do not cut the fangs off the snakes as that would be cruel,' the tribal chief said.
'We do not harm the them because they are like children to us.
'In all my years with snakes, from my childhood to now, I have only heard of one man to have been bitten.
'This was because he kept the snake longer than seven months.'
Since snake charming was made illegal in 1991, the Vadi have come under huge pressure from the state and national governments of India.

'The police routinely search us strip us of our snakes whenever we cross their paths,' Madari said.

'We live 25km away from the town of Rajkot at the moment, and every time we try to enter the village for food or even bottle of water, the villagers chase us away.

'This upsets me greatly because this village is the birthplace of the father of our nation Gandhi.

'Would he stop us from continuing our traditions? The rich of India have no time for the poor.'

Tiny Jyoti Amge is already a 'mini' celebrity in her hometown of Nagpur, India.

But she has one big claim to fame - at just under two-foot tall the teenager is the smallest girl in the world.

Now Jyoti is to be featured in Channel 4's Bodyshock series on Thursday, June 11 at 9pm.

Standing just one foot 11.5ins at 15-years-old, she is half the size of her two-year-old nephew.

'When I tell people my age they don't believe me,' she said.

Weighing just 12lbs - only 9lbs more than her weight at birth, Jyoti dreams of becoming an actress and is believed by many to be the reincarnation of a goddess.
'When I was three I realised that I was different to the rest of the kids,' she said.

'I thought that everyone was bigger and I should get bigger too.'

Jyoti has her own mini grey uniform and school bag and even a tiny desk. But she looks like a doll next to her teenage classmates.

She said: 'I am proud of being the smallest girl. I love all the attention I get.

'I'm not scared of being small, and I don't regret being small.

'I am sure there are many people in this world who are dwarves like me.

'I'm just the same as other people. I eat like you, dream like you. I don't feel any different.'

Despite her tiny size Jyoti insists on living as normal a life as possible - including going to the local school where she is an average and sometimes naughty student.

'I used to get stressed and couldn't go out much but now I like going out and speaking to people,' she said.

'When I first went to school everyone was so big I used to get scared but I'm okay now, I like it.

'I have a different desk and chair that were made for me. I'm a normal student.

'I would like to be an actress when I grow up. My dream is to do films.'

Jyoti has already had a taste of fame in a pop video for Indian star Mika Singh.

'They asked her to appear in the video for a song on his album,' said her mum Ranjana Amge, 45.
However, Jyoti's dreams of stardom could be ruined because of fractures to both her legs that have never healed due to problems with her size.

'First I could walk, but I slipped on ice during a holiday and hurt my leg. Because of that I'm not able to do anything. I find it strange that my legs just don't heal. They should heal quickly. I don't like it, it causes me pain.'

Doctors believe Jyoti is a pituitary dwarf but have never been able to pinpoint her condition.

Jyoti's mum said: 'No-one knows why she is so small. We consulted a specialist and he said she will be this size all of her life.

'Jyoti is small, yet cute, and we love her very much.'

People in the region of India where the family live flock to see the pretty teenager and some even treat her as a goddess.

Ambitious Jyoti dreams of making it as a Bollywood actress. She said: 'I would love to act in films. I would love to travel to London and to see the different world there.

'I want to see America as well. I'd love to work in a big city like Mumbai.'
Jyoti receives tremendous support from her brother and two sisters, and is treated the same as other members of the family.


Oldest sister Archana, 25, said: 'I have been taking care of her since she was a small baby. She is so delicate and fragile.

'In the morning I get her ready, take her to school and in the evening help her with the homework and studies.'

During her first five years of life, brave Jyoti was in and out of hospital as she constantly fell sick, but eventually she grew stronger.

The teenager's dad Kishan Amge, 52, a construction worker, said: 'She makes me proud.


'Lots of saints and spiritual gurus come to see and bless her. They pray for her happiness and long life.'

But clever Jyoti, who is doing well in her lessons, is also like any other teenage girl.

She said: 'I have a huge collection of dresses. I like to shop for more. Everyone in my family gets things for me.

'I love make-up and like dressing up like beautiful models. I live a normal, healthy life and I'm very happy.'

Two women are fighting for their lives after cosmetic injections aimed at giving them 'J.Lo' style bottoms went disastrously wrong.

Andrea Lee, 30, suffered total kidney failure after being 'poisoned' with what is believed to be industrial silicone.

Her friend Zakiya Teagle, 33, is also in a critical condition in a Florida hospital after her internal organs stopped functioning.

Police in Tampa, Florida, are now searching for the fake doctor who carried out the cosmetic procedures on both women.

Sharhonda Lindsay, 32, has gone on the run after the two women were rushed to hospital with critical injuries caused by her injections.

According to police, Lindsay, who has no medical licence or cosmetic surgery experience, performed the 'butt shots' at her home last month.

Ms Lee and Ms Teagle paid more than £300 to have a series of silicone injections that they hoped would enhance the shape and size of their bottoms.

Friends said the women hoped to copy the fuller-figure look that singer Jennifer Lopez is famous for.

Investigators said Lindsay used a plastic bottle and a Tupperware bowl to mix the solution.

One woman received 40 shots within a 90-minute period. The other had 20 in the same amount of time.

Detectives say the two victims were told they were being injected with a silicone substance called 'Hydrogel'.

But they think a stronger industrial silicone was used.

Ms Lee's mother Dorethea Belnavis said her daughter started getting extremely ill within several hours of having the injections.

She said her daughter was in a critical condition in a Tampa hospital after damage to her kidneys, liver and lungs.

'She's fighting for her life right now,' said Ms Belnavis.

Police have appealed to other women in the Tampa area to come forward if they have had any dealings with Lindsay.

A woman with record-breaking 3ft fingernails is recovering in hospital after surviving a car crash in which all ten were all broken off.

Grandmother Lee Redmond is said to be devastated at the loss of her nails, which had not been cut for 30 years.

She has been hospitalised with serious but not life-threatening injuries after she was ejected from the seat of an SUV in the crash.

The driver of the 4x4 in which she was a passenger is in a critical condition. A friend said: 'Lee knows she's lucky to be alive but she's devastated.'


Redmond's nails hadn't been cut since 1979.

The Salt Lake City, Utah resident was listed in the Guinness Book of World Records, which claimed her nails measured a total of more than 28 feet long in 2008.

The longest nail - on her right thumb - was a sickening 2 feet, 11 inches.

Mrs Redmond, who once turned down £60,000 to have them clipped on live TV, has now lost her claim to fame.

In 2006 she said she was ready to cut her nails so she could care for her husband, who suffers from Alzheimer's.

However she changed her mind, insisting that the nails did not interfere with her husband's care - indeed, that they did not impact her daily life much at all.

She did have to care for the nails daily, soaking them in olive oil and cleaning them with a toothbrush.

And when, in previous interviews, she was asked the inevitable question about how she goes uses the bathroom, she replied: 'Very carefully'.

Police lieutenant Don Hutson said Mrs Redmond was thrown into the road when her car hit another vehicle at a crossroads. Her nails were all snapped off near the fingers.

Lieutenant Hutson added: 'She is conscious and is heartbroken over the loss of her nails.'

Redmond has been featured on TV in episodes of 'Guinness Book of World Records' and 'Ripley's Believe It or Not.'

A government minister has sparked a furious row after posting a naked picture of herself on Facebook.

Daisy Tourne, Uruguay's interior minister, posted the snapshot above the caption 'there's nothing more natural than a woman in the shower.'

Scandalised opposition leaders have branded her an exhibitionist and said her actions were unacceptable, particularly as she had responsibility for the police.


'I think it's in very bad taste that the minister exposes herself so intimately,' former Vice President Luis Hierro Lopez told newspaper El Pais.

'Ministers have to be more austere, modest - above all the Minister of the Interior.'


Lawmaker Jose Amorin called the photo 'frivolous.'

Tourne, 57, responded on her page on the popular social networking site, saying the photo was not made available publicly or intended to be erotic.


She said it was taken in a shower used to rinse off sand after a visit to the beach, according to El Pais which reproduced the picture showing only Tourne's hands and laughing face beneath running water.

The newspaper reported that ruling party lawmaker Victor Semproni backed Tourne, commenting below the picture: 'I'm thinking about taking a photo of myself in the shower, but a full body shot.'

Facebook has attracted more than 140 million users worldwide since it began in 2004.

A football referee was forced to send off a parrot during a match - after the bird began imitating his whistle.
Nine-year-old Me-Tu was taken to the match in his cage by eccentric owner Irene Kerrigan, 66, because he enjoys watching the players run around.
But the game descended into farce when the rare Senegalese parrot began copying the referee's whistle, causing confusion on the pitch.

He also started shouting 'pretty boy' as some of the players showed off their silky skills.
Referee Gary Bailey, 45, had no choice but to stop the game and order Irene and Me-Tu to leave the touchline.
Gary said the game between Hertford Heath and Hatfield Town in the Hertfordshire Senior Centenary Trophy was the most bizarre he has ever overseen.
'I've sent a few people off in my time but I 've never sent a parrot off before,' he said.
'It was a tough game and the lads were kicking lumps out of each other on the pitch.
'About 10 minutes into the second half one of the lads was running with the ball and then all of a sudden he'd heard a whistle and then stopped.
'The whistle wasn't even anywhere near my lips!'  After a brief stoppage Gary let the amateur game continue but as the second half went on the parrot continued to make the noises and play was interrupted.
So he approached Irene, who lives near the ground at Hertford Heath, and asked them to leave the touchline and retreat into the stands.
Gary, of Hodderston, Hertfordshire, added: 'I was forced to go over to this woman who I thought was making the noises and ask her to stop.
'When I confronted her she said "It's not me, it's my parrot". I got a hell of a shock.
'The woman told me she was just taking it for a walk and giving it some air. I didn't have a choice I had to sent the bird off because it was ruining the game.' 
But Irene has vowed to return to the stadium. She said: 'He loves his football and I'll take him back down there again on Saturday.'  
The 150-strong crowd looed on as the pair were forced to beat a hasty retreat.
Hatfield Town Manager, Trevor Lloyd, 36 watched his team wing it into the semi finals winning the cup tie 5-2.
Trevor said: 'It's a shame the parrot didn't manage to hang on into extra time because we scored three goals.'

It will travel with him wherever in the world he goes.

The President- elect, pictured inset inset, will have his first ride in the stretch limo when he parades along Pennsylvania Avenue in Washington after his inauguration on January 20.

But his Secret Service agents have already been familiarising themselves with the machine they call 'The Beast', built by General Motors in Detroit and based on a Cadillac chassis.

But bulletproof glass and armourplatingare standard throughout and the car is hermetically-sealed to withstand chemical weapons.

As with previous presidential limos it is packed with electronic communication systems to allow Mr Obama to keep in contact with the outside world.

One personal touch will be the remote-controlled ten-CD changer on which he can play his favourite artists, said to include Stevie Wonder and Bob Dylan.

Despite the protection afforded by Cadillac One, the Secret Service will be taking no chances when Mr Obama is sworn in as the 44th president.

A three-mile security perimeter will be thrown around the U.S. capital, with no vehicles allowed inside, to prevent a car bomb attack.
