Shanghai's Fudan University recently held a People's Congress primary election, which was boycotted by the majority of students as they were dissatisfied with the officially designated candidates.
Some students even chose to fill in the name of Japanese adult movie actress Sora Aoi in the candidate's column on the ballot to invalidate their vote. The school was eventually forced to re-run the election.

According to Hong Kong media reports, as too many students abstained from voting in Fudan University's recent elections for Shanghai Yangpu District People's Congress, two officially designated candidates were unable to get a majority vote.

The prank played by college students filling in the names of Sora Aoi and Hong Kong actor and singer Edison Chen and Sora Aoi's name on their ballots invalidated the election.

"We can only express our dissatisfaction in this way," said a junior students at the university, who said the two officially designated candidates and their political aims were both all unclear."
"The election itself is funny, even Sora Aoi and Edison Chen are more influential than the election."

In an earlier vote in Guangzhou's University City, students entered the popular character "Laughing Brother" (Liangxiao Tang) from the Hong Kong drama Sneak Attack as their desired candidate.
He placed fourth among all the candidates.
