Inspiration? Animated inventors Wallace and Gromit

The simplest ideas are often the best and this Chinese road sweeper is no exception.
Looking like something that's been bodged together in a shed by animated inventors Wallace and Gromit, the wacky contraption uses 16 straw broomsticks connected to a rotating iron disc which spins round as it is pulled along behind a van. 

Although it might appear to be a one-off, it's a tried and trusted design that has been in use across China for decades.

Basic they might be, but you can't argue with their effectiveness and with only the straw sweeps that ever need replacing they're cheap to run too.
Just watch out for cyclists!
