The world's first pet-only airline has taken to the skies - after a couple were left traumatised when their dog was forced to travel in a plane's cargo hold.
Alysa Binder and Dan Wiesel decided they needed a safer option and came up with the bizarre idea.
But the determined couple saw it through and, yesterday, Pet Airway's first flight took off from Farmingdale, New York.
The idea has clearly struck a chord: they are booked solid for the next two months.

Commercial airlines currently allow a limited number of small pets to fly in the cabin, but the rest must travel in the darkened cargo hold, where temperatures can vary wildly.
When Binder and Wiesel had to transport their Jack Russell Zoe in cargo, they panicked about her welfare and decided to do something about it.
Using their consulting backgrounds and business savvy, they established Pet Airways in 2005.
They have spent the last four years designing a fleet of five planes, dealing with flight regulations and setting up airport schedules.
The airline now flies between five major cities - New York, Washington, Chicago, Denver, and Los Angeles - and Binder and Wiesel say they have already been overwhelmed by the response.

A one-way fare costs $250 (£153) - which is comparable to pet fees at the largest US airlines - and the animals fly in the main cabin of a Suburban Air Freight plan, lined with carriers instead of seats.
The dogs and cats are escorted onto the plane by flight attendants who check on the animals every 15 minutes and take them for toilet breaks.
And at each of the five airports it serves, the company has created a 'Pet Lounge' for future fliers to wait and sniff before flights.
Because each flight stops in cities along the way, however, the journey time is much longer than average, with the New York to Los Angeles route taking 24 hours.
One of the airline's first customers is Amanda Hickey, from Portland, Oregon, who's transporting her dogs Mardi and Penny from Denver to Chicago.
'For a little bit more money, I have peace of mind,' she said.
