Two of the world's richest men - Bill Gates and Warren Buffett - are visiting China on Sept 29.

The duo have sent out invitations to 50 magnates in China to a private function to be hosted by them during their visit.

However, some of the people have rejected the invitation, worrying that they would be asked to donate money, Chongqing Evening News reported.

Ye Lei, the China office chief of the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, said the event would be conducted at a hotel in Beijing.

"After the invitations were sent out, most of the people have called to query if they would be asked to donate at the function.

"So far, a small group has turned down the invitations," he said.

Ye said most of the 50 people invited were among the richest in the country, who also involved in charity activities.

Gates and Buffett started the Giving Pledge campaign in June, urging billionaires to give away their wealth to charity.

So far, 40 American billionaires have promised to donate half of their wealth.

It is learnt Gates and Buffett's visit to China was to persuade the Chinese to join the campaign.

Gates, the 55-year-old co-founder and chairman of Microsoft, is now focuses on charity works.
He has donated large amounts of money to various charitable organisations and scientific research programs via the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation established by him in 2000.

Buffett, 80, has pledged to give away 99 per cent of his fortune to philanthropic causes via the foundation.
