A morbidly obese woman in France has had a kidney pulled from her vagina in a medical first for French surgeons.
The massive woman is reported to weigh over 18.5 stone and suffered kidney failure due to multiple infections. Surgeons needed to remove the organ but decided that cutting through the layers of fat was too risky.
So doctors at the hospital in Lyon came up with the revolutionary idea of removing the woman’s kidney through her vagina.
“The vaginal route allows us to reduce the pain and the risk of complications, as the cut is much smaller,” a spokesperson for the hospital said.
