A man, who had spent some 10 years in jail for murder, has been acquitted after the victim 'came back to life'.
The Henan Higher People's Court in China declared Zhao Zuohai, 57, innocent on Saturday.
At a press conference on Sunday, the court official said they had released Zuohai from the prison and helped him settled down.
The official said Zuohai was declared innocent after the victim he was convicted of murdering returned home last month.
A probe into the false murder charge has been launched, China media reported.
Zhao Zuohai was convicted and sentenced to death by a court in Henan province on charges of killing his neighbour Zhao Zhenxiang in a 1999 dispute over a woman they both were seeing, the Beijing News said.
His sentence was commuted to life in prison and later reduced to 20 years. Zhao Zuohai confessed to the killing after a headless body was found in a local well in Zhecheng county, where he lived.
Zhenshang went missing after the fight. His nephew lodged a police report four months later, suspecting his uncle had been killed by Zuohai.
Zuohai was detained to assist investigations but released 20 days later.

In May 1999, a highly-decomposed headless body, believed to be that of Zhenshang, was found in a well in the village.

Zuohai was arrested as the murder suspect and later convicted of murdering the neighbour.

After being missing for 13 years, Zhenshang, 58, returned home on April 30 this year.

The court ruled Zuohai innocent a day after confirming Zhenshang's identity on May 7.
The report said it remained unclear why Zhao Zuohai had pleaded guilty to the murder in the first place but added that there were suspicions police had tortured the confession out of him.

Police have returned to the well where the headless body was found and began their probe to re-establish the man's identity.

Zhensheng told the villagers that he ran away after injuring Zuohai in the fight 13 years ago.

"I was worried that I might have killed him and left the village in the wee hours on my bicycle, with only 400 yuan (RM200) and a quilt.

"I do not know anything that happened here after that until I come back," said the petty trader.


He said he decided to return home after suffering from a minor hemiplegia.
